The traditional annual general meeting was held June 9, 2009 at Le Bifthéque Cours Mont-Royal, Montreal, Quebec. This year the CDCA went back to basics and conducted the meeting over dinner. This was a perfect opportunity to network with others in the industry. A special presentation was also given by a supplier. Those who attended felt the format and interaction was most beneficial and with economic challenges this was the best financial approach to meeting.

The Canadian Die Casters conducted its annual meeting on May 9th, 2008 in Toronto, Ontario. The general meeting was held in conjunction with a mini trade show and workshop.

The event started with each exhibitor being given ten minutes to present their products and services to a captive audience. This was implemented due to past show recommendations. The attendees were not disappointed as it was apparent that each exhibitor had a broad knowledge of their products and services, and the exchange of information was greatly appreciated by all.

After the general meeting the audience was introduced to Mr. Jean-Michel Laurin, Vice President, Global Business Policy for Canadian Manufacturers Coalition which includes the automotive, electronics and telecommunication sectors,  that has come together to lobby the Government. The CDCA recently joined this elite group.

After lunch, Mr. Kirkman, President of Die Therm Engineering LLC, presented a workshop on data driven and activity based methods of understanding product costs. This approach results in more accurate costing than conventional cost accounting methods and provides good data for making strategic improvement decisions.

2008 AGM and Mini Trade Show/Workshop

Jean-Michel Laurin, Vice President, Global Business Policy for Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters discussed the newly formed Canadian Manufacturers Coalition, Canadian industry representatives (including the automotive, electronics and telecommunication sectors) that all come together to lobby the government on manufacturing issues. The CDCA recently joined this elite group to have a better voice with the various levels of government.

 

Jonathan Kirkman, President of Die Therm Engineering LLC, conducted a 2 hour workshop that covered data driven and activity based methods of understanding product cost. He explained approach resulted in more accurate costing than conventional cost accounting methods and provided good data for making strategic improvement decisions.
